In a little more than two weeks, the number of residents looking to gain a seat on Brampton City Council will be locked-in ahead of the upcoming election.<\/p>\n
Nominations for the October Ontario municipal elections opened in May and will close on Aug. 21, meaning any hopefuls who haven\u2019t registered to run have limited time to get their affairs in order.<\/p>\n
Brampton voters will go to the polls on Oct. 26 to choose who serves the next term as city and regional councillors, mayor of Brampton, and school board trustees for the Peel District School Board, Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir.<\/p>\n
Nomination forms must be filed in person by the candidate or an authorized agent during regular office hours, the city says. Appointments are recommended, as staff may not be able to accommodate walk-ins.<\/p>\n
The filing fee is $200 if running for mayor, and $100 for all other offices.<\/p>\n
\u201cApplicants must present original identification with proof of name and qualifying address. Photocopies and electronic forms of ID will not be accepted,\u201d the city says, adding that a list of acceptable forms of identification can be found online<\/a>.<\/p>\n All but one of the current Brampton City Councillors have officially signed up to run again to keep their seats<\/a>, as has Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Patrick Brown launches third bid for mayor of Brampton<\/a><\/p>\n As of Tuesday, Regional Councillor for Wards 9 and 10 Gurpartap Singh Toor is the lone sitting member of council not seeking reelection. Toor told INsauga last month that he\u2019s had \u201coverwhelming positive feedback from people encouraging him to go on for (four) more years,\u201d but did not say whether he was planning to seek re-election.<\/p>\n Brampton residents not looking to enter politics can still get involved with the process and earn some extra money as election workers, including Location Supervisor, Assistant Location Supervisor, Deputy Returning Officer, Tabulator Attendant, Accessible Voting Unit Attendant and Greeter.<\/p>\n Election workers can make upwards of $1,200 in Brampton.
