later this month, with proceeds supporting local initiatives, including the rebuilding efforts of Redwood Meadows Emergency Services.

The tournament is set for Aug. 29 at Wintergreen Golf and Country Club, with a shotgun start at 1 p.m.

Honouring Mabel Yeo

Foundation president Julie Handrahan says the event honours Mabel Yeo, a longtime Bragg Creek community member who was deeply involved with the former Bragg Creek Ladies Auxiliary, now the Bragg Creek Foundation.

“She was one of our longtime members who loved to golf and did a lot with the Bragg Creek Ladies Auxiliary,” says Handrahan. “So this is in her honour.”

The tournament was first held last year around the time of Bragg Creek Days but has been moved this year to give it its own spotlight.

The 18-hole event follows a Texas Scramble format, and organizers say golfers of all skill levels are encouraged to participate.

“You don’t even have to be a seasoned golfer,” says Handrahan. “We just want community to come together and have fun.”

Supporting the community

Registration is $210 per golfer, while a team sponsorship package with a foursome is available for $940.

The tournament will also include a texas-style barbecue from Smokin’ Oak, prizes, a silent auction, hole prizes, hole-in-one challenges and a special Mabel’s Manhattan drink opportunity in honour of Mabel and her husband Ken, who were well known for their love of Manhattans.

Handrahan says the biggest focus is keeping the funds raised in the local community.

“Every dollar from the tournament stays in the community, which is so, so, so important,” she says.

RELATED STORIES

<a href="https://cochranenow.com/articles/bragg-creek-foundation-shines-spotlight-on-priorities-at-launch" rel="nofollow noopener" Emergency Services as it rebuilds following a devastating fire that destroyed its four-bay back hall on Dec. 17, 2025.

The fire resulted in the loss of emergency response equipment, training resources, communications equipment, the RMES Training Centre and other critical supplies used by the volunteer department.

Handrahan says supporting RMES means supporting both residents and the many visitors who enjoy the Bragg Creek area.

“When we’re supporting them as well in their rebuild, we’re supporting all our visitors that come out to Bragg Creek,” she says.

RMES responded to 443 calls in 2025, including 191 medical calls, 121 rescue calls, 93 fire-related calls, 22 other calls and eight hazmat calls.

Handrahan says the department’s volunteers have played a critical role in the community for decades.

“They’re just an amazing group of people that continually give back to the community,” she says.

Growing future support

The tournament will also help grow the Foundation’s scholarship program and urgent needs fund, which support students pursuing university, college or trade education and assist community members facing natural disasters or life-altering events.

People interested in registering, sponsoring the event or learning more can visit the
