{"id":847357,"date":"2026-08-05T20:08:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-05T20:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/847357\/"},"modified":"2026-08-05T20:08:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-05T20:08:11","slug":"honey-badgers-brawl-leads-to-fines-and-suspension-for-brampton-players","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/847357\/","title":{"rendered":"Honey Badgers brawl leads to fines and suspension for Brampton players"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several players including members of the Brampton Honey Badgers have been suspended and fined ahead of the Canadian Elite Basketball League playoffs following an on-court brawl.<\/p>\n<p>The fracas erupted with less than a minute remaining in the second quarter of the Honey Badger\u2019s final regular season game against the Scarborough Shooting Stars on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Scarborough was leading Brampton 48-44 when the fight started, and appeared to begin between the Honey Badgers\u2019 Tegra Izay and the Shooting Stars\u2019 Charles Bediako before quickly escalating as players from both benches became involved.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/video-fight-erupts-between-brampton-and-scarborough-basketball-teams\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Video from the game which has since been removed online shows punches being thrown<\/a> as teammates and coaching staff rushed onto the court in an attempt to separate those involved. Toronto hip-hop star Drake was in the crowd watching the action during Monday\u2019s game.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the CEBL announced suspensions and fines against six players, including two from Brampton.<\/p>\n<p>From the Honey Badgers, Roddy Peters Jr. and Tegra Izay have each been fined. Peters will serve a two-game suspension while Izay was handed a one-game suspension.<\/p>\n<p>Myles Powel, Frank Mitchell, Javan Johnson and Terquavion Smith were fined on the Shooting Stars\u2019 side of the brawl. Johnson and Mitchell will serve one-game suspensions, while Smith will sit out for two games.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll disciplinary decisions are effective immediately,\u201d the league said when announcing the fines and suspensions on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The amount of the fines have not been disclosed.<\/p>\n<p>The suspensions mean the Honey Badgers will be without Peters and Izay when the post-season starts.
