A woman is fighting for her life after being struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene on a Highway 410 off-ramp in Brampton early Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
Ontario Provincial Police say the collision happened at approximately 12:20 a.m. on the northbound Highway 410 off-ramp to Steeles Avenue.<\/p>\n
Emergency crews responded after reports that a pedestrian had been hit while in the live traffic lanes. The woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n
Investigators say the driver did not stop after the collision and are now asking for the public\u2019s help in identifying both the vehicle and the person behind the wheel.<\/p>\n
Police believe the suspect vehicle is a Jeep Cherokee that is likely missing part of its front bumper grille and has damage to the hood as a result of the collision.<\/p>\n
Vehicle debris recovered at the scene has helped investigators narrow down the make and model of the SUV.<\/p>\n
The victim has not yet been identified.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need your assistance,\u201d OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said. \u201cWe are in the process of identifying this female.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Highway 410 northbound off-ramp to Steeles Avenue remained closed for several hours while officers examined the scene before reopening at approximately 4 a.m.<\/p>\n
The investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
