A former St. Pierre resident is set to\u00a0represent\u00a0Canada on the international stage after earning a spot on the country’s junior national artistic swimming team.\u00a0<\/p>\n
From St. Pierre to Budapest\u00a0<\/p>\n
Jasmine Peloquin is currently training in Montreal ahead of the World Aquatics Junior Artistic Swimming Championships in Budapest, Hungary.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The competition marks her first international meet and comes after years of dedication to the sport.\u00a0<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything that I\u2019ve trained for the past 10 years, and the three years in Calgary, has been worth it,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0a dream come true.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
The talented swimmer moved from southeastern Manitoba to Calgary to pursue high-performance training before being selected to Team Canada.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Building trust, flying high<\/p>\n
While the official competition lineup has not yet been\u00a0finalized, Peloquin expects to compete in two team events: the technical team routine and the acrobatic team routine.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0literally just\u00a0throwing people in the air and seeing how many times they can flip,\u201d says Peloquin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Preparing for competition involves much more than time in the pool.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Peloquin says athletes rehearse routines on land, carefully practicing timing,\u00a0breathing\u00a0and positioning before taking those movements into the water.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Strength and flexibility training also play a key role.\u00a0<\/p>\n
She says trust among teammates is essential.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all have so much trust in\u00a0each other,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Team Canada Artistic Swimming Team<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have so many\u00a0team\u00a0bonding\u00a0exercises\u00a0that we do.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Canada’s junior national team is coached by Yingli Hu, a two-time Olympian originally from China, along with coaches Salma and Sam from Quebec.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The team will perform two distinctly different routines in Budapest.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Their technical routine is set to music by Canadian icon Celine Dion, while the acrobatic routine features an Avatar theme.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is my first international\u00a0meet, so I\u2019m a little bit nervous, but very excited,\u201d Peloquin says.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll\u00a0be by my teammates side. I have amazing coaches with me, so\u00a0I\u2019m\u00a0very happy\u00a0to be doing it with them.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Peloquin leaves for Hungary on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The team will spend several days training before competition begins, and she also plans to spend an extra day in Budapest with her family after the championships conclude.\u00a0<\/p>\n
