Beloved Rhode Island Judge Frank Caprio has died after a cancer diagnosis, according to posts on his popular social media pages. <\/p>\n

Relatives confirmed his death to NBC affiliate WJAR<\/a> on Wednesday, a day after he’d asked followers from a hospital bed for their prayers.<\/p>\n

“Unfortunately I’ve had a setback, I’m back in the hospital now and I’m coming to you again asking you to remember me in your prayers once more,” Caprio said, referring to a previous bout with pancreatic cancer<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Gov. Dan McKee ordered that Rhode Island flags fly at half-staff through the day of his interment, calling Caprio a “treasure” who connected with people as “a symbol of empathy on the bench, showing us what is possible when justice is tempered with humanity.”<\/p>\n

Caprio earned the nickname “the nicest judge in the world”<\/a> for his years on the Emmy-nominated show “Caught in Providence” and his presence on social media, where he had millions of followers.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tJudge Frank Caprio, who has shared his compassion in the courtroom for over 35 years, has been receiving supportive letters from around the world since his diagnosis with pancreatic cancer.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n

“He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.
