Coquitlam kicker Dawson Hodge is back in the Canadian Football League.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old Terry Fox Secondary School grad has signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s Hodge\u2019s second go-round with the Prairie team. He played one pre-season game with the Roughriders in 2025, averaging 64 yards on three kickoffs, punting once for 48 yards and scoring a 31-yard field goal.<\/p>\n

Hodge landed his try-out with Saskatchewan after he had been cut from the Toronto Argonauts\u2019 training camp earlier that spring.<\/p>\n

Following his release by the Roughriders, Hodge returned to Wilfrid Laurier University<\/a> in Waterloo, Ont., for his fifth season with the Golden Hawks.<\/p>\n

There, Hodge connected for 51 of 76 career field goal attempts, scored 419 points and helped lead the team to the Yates Cup and Uteck Bowl in 2024. He was also a first team Ontario University Athletics all-star and second-team U-Sports All-Canadian in 2022.<\/p>\n

In January, Hodge signed with the Calgary Stampeders<\/a>, where he was reunited with his college long snapper, Jason MacGougan.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But the reunion didn\u2019t last, as Hodge was released after appearing in one pre-season game \u2014 ironically against the Roughriders\u00a0 \u2014 where he kicked a 43-yard field goal.<\/p>\n

In Saskatchewan, Hodge will be a back-up to incumbent kicker Alex Hale, an Australian who\u2019s struggling in his rookie season. He\u2019s only been successful on 12 of his 17 field goal attempts through seven games.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, Roughriders\u2019 coach Corey Mace \u2014 who\u2019s from Port Moody \u2014 told Sportscage.com he\u2019s open to pushing Hale.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, you always look at all those different options,\u201d he said. \u201cIf we bring somebody in for competition, we\u2019ll always do what\u2019s best for the team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hodge didn\u2019t start playing football until his senior year at Terry Fox. when his twin brother, Brandon, talked him into bringing his soccer skills to the the school\u2019s football team. He subsequently helped the Ravens reach the semifinals of the 2018 Subway Bowl provincial championship.<\/p>\n
