{"id":850398,"date":"2026-08-08T08:29:02","date_gmt":"2026-08-08T08:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/850398\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T08:29:02","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T08:29:02","slug":"asirt-continues-investigating-police-shooting-in-southwest-calgary-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/850398\/","title":{"rendered":"ASIRT continues investigating police shooting in southwest Calgary"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team\u00a0(ASIRT) is continuing to investigate a <a data-ylk=\"slk:police officer-involved shooting;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/calgary\/asirt-shooting-calgary-police-9.7290902\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">police officer-involved shooting<\/a> on July 30 in the southwest Calgary community of Bridlewood.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The incident happened after police responded to reports of a man firing a bow and arrow in a backyard on the 1000 block of Bridlemeadows Manor S.W. just before 2 a.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to ASIRT, the 36-year-old man was not allowed to be at that home \u2014 which police had also been called to earlier that night \u2014 or possess weapons, as conditions of his release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police say they repeatedly asked the man to come outside without any weapons. But about an hour later, he left through the front door and moved toward officers while carrying a bow and arrow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In response, a police service dog was released and two weapons \u2014 a &#8220;40-mm less-lethal impact weapon&#8221; and a service pistol \u2014 were fired.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Police performed first aid on the man after the weapons were fired.
