Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insists he has rejected President Donald \u2060\u2060Trump\u2019s plan for Gaza and will not \u2060\u2060withdraw forces until the Palestinian group Hamas \u2060\u2060fully disarms, risking more obstacles in the increasingly complex efforts to reduce escalation on multiple fronts in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cIsrael rejects the 15-point document,\u201d Netanyahu said at a cabinet meeting on Sunday, referring to the plan endorsed last month by Hamas.<\/p>\n
The Israeli army \u201cwill not carry out any withdrawal until Hamas is genuinely disarmed \u2026 and will continue to thwart threats against our forces and our citizens\u201d, Netanyahu said, adding\u00a0that Israel is \u201ctalking to the Americans about this issue\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have ideas, some of which are acceptable to us and some are not acceptable to us, and we know how to stand firm on these things,\u201d Netanyahu said.<\/p>\n
There was no immediate response from the White House.<\/p>\n
In a statement published on Telegram later on Sunday, Hamas said it remained committed to fully implementing the plan.<\/p>\n
The Palestinian armed group called on mediators and guarantor countries to \u201cassume their responsibilities\u201d and prevent any \u201cviolations or breaches\u201d that could derail the process.<\/p>\n
Israel has continued \u2060\u2060to carry out near-daily deadly attacks across the Gaza Strip regardless of a so-called \u201cceasefire\u201d with Hamas last \u2060\u2060October.<\/p>\n
Trump announced a \u201chistoric\u201d agreement<\/a> on on July 30 that entailed \u201cthe complete disarmament of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza\u201d, which he called \u201ca monumental step toward lasting peace and security\u201d. The deal was credited to the US-led Board of Peace, inaugurated in February 2026 and including roughly 40 countries \u2013 including Israel and several Arab states, though no Palestinian representatives \u2013 \u00a0with Trump installed as its chair for life.<\/p>\n Speaking to his cabinet Sunday, Netanyahu vowed that \u201cas long as I am prime minister, no Palestinian state will arise\u201d and emphasised that Israel would not abide by the US-backed plan.<\/p>\n Israel\u2019s desire for \u201creal disarmament, not fictitious disarmament\u201d would mean the removal of all weaponry, including lighter weapons, he said.<\/p>\n The 15-point plan calls for initially focusing on<\/a> Hamas\u2019s heavy weaponry, military production sites, weapons depots and the group\u2019s extensive tunnel network.<\/p>\n Reporting from Washington DC, Al Jazeera\u2019s Patty Culhane said that Netanyahu is playing a \u201cvery dangerous game\u201d with Trump.<\/p>\n Israel is becoming increasingly unpopular in the US, with the Democratic Party \u201cvery much sliding towards the Palestinian cause\u201d, said Culhane.<\/p>\n Furthermore, Trump could decide to \u201csay it is time to split with Israel\u201d, which would likely see many in the Republican Party, \u201cthe last staunchest ally of Israel in the US\u201d, follow suit, Culhane said.<\/p>\n Reporting from Gaza City, Al Jazeera\u2019s Hani Mahmoud said Netanyahu\u2019s statement raises \u201cserious questions\u201d for Palestinians about the path out of hostilities.<\/p>\n \u201cThe full rejection here puts the sequencing and the steps into question,\u201d Mahmoud said.<\/p>\n Reporting from Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank, Al Jazeera\u2019s Nour Odeh said Netanyahu\u2019s stated conditions could prove \u201cextremely problematic for the Board of Peace and the mediators who have been working for months now to try to carry out the disarmament of Hamas\u201d.<\/p>\n The roadmap would eventually involve transferring Gaza\u2019s day-to-day administration to a technocratic Palestinian committee operating under the oversight of the Board of Peace.<\/p>\n But the board has \u201cvery limited power\u201d to move forward without Israeli support, Odeh said.<\/p>\n \u201cNetanyahu has hit the reset button,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Since Hamas and Israel agreed to a nominal ceasefire last October, experts have expressed scepticism<\/a> that Israel would honour the agreement as its forces have continued to pummel<\/a> Gaza, killing hundreds of people.<\/p>\n At least one child was injured in Israeli army gunfire in the Al-Najjar neighbourhood of Khan Younis on Sunday, the Palestinian Wafa news agency reported.<\/p>\n Since the \u201cceasefire\u201d started in mid-October last year, at least 1,258 people have been killed and 4,139 wounded with more than 800 bodies recovered from rubble, according to Gaza\u2019s health ministry.<\/p>\n The overall death toll in Gaza since October 2023 is at least 73,386 and 174,250 wounded.<\/p>\n Attacks by Israeli forces, settlers across the occupied West Bank\u00a0<\/p>\n Israeli forces and settlers continue to launch near daily attacks across the occupied West Bank, as Netanyahu\u2019s party courts the settler vote less than three months before Israel\u2019s general elections.<\/p>\n The Israeli military ransacked multiple homes after storming several villages in the Nablus governorate and multiple towns east of Bethlehem, reported Wafa.<\/p>\n Israeli settlers and soldiers carried out attacks in the areas of Tubas, al-Mughayyir, Masafer Yatta and Wadi al-Rakhim while also levelling farmland, according to Al Jazeera journalists on the ground.<\/p>\n In conjunction with Israeli police, Israeli worshippers stormed the Al-Aqsa mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem.<\/p>\n The compound, which is Islam\u2019s third holiest site, is where Prophet Muhammad is believed to have ascended into heaven.<\/p>\n It is also the holiest site in Judaism, known as the Temple Mount, where the ancient Temple of Jerusalem previously stood.<\/p>\n A group of Israeli settlers protected by military forces also stormed the town of Beit Ur al-Tahta, west of Ramallah, while another group of settlers simultaneously stormed the al-Batin area on the outskirts of the village of Jaljulia, north of Ramallah, Wafa reported.<\/p>\n Israeli settlers conducted raids in multiple locations across the Ramallah and el-Bireh governorates.<\/p>\n Israeli settlers also attacked Palestinian properties near Bethlehem and cut down olive trees and damaged water tanks in Deir Sharaf, west of Nablus.<\/p>\n Israeli settlers under military protection attacked Palestinian farmers in Al-Mughayyir, northeast of Ramallah.<\/p>\n Israeli ministers and parliament members attended an event to establish Emek Dotan, a new illegal Israeli settlement in Arrabeh, southwestern
