LURAY, Va. (WYMT) – Ben Jones, who played mechanic Cooter Davenport on the hit television show \u2018The Dukes of Hazzard\u2019, has died.<\/p>\n
His wife posted on social media that Jones died of a massive heart attack at home Sunday. He was 84.<\/p>\n
\u2018The Dukes of Hazzard\u2019 ran for seven seasons on CBS, from 1979 to 1985. Jones appeared in all seasons.<\/p>\n
Jones was also a business owner and served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1989 to 1993 when he lived in Georgia.<\/p>\n
Many fans have probably visited \u2018Cooter\u2019s Place\u2019, which is a \u2018Dukes of Hazzard\u2019 themed museum and store with three locations in Nashville, TN, Pigeon Forge, TN and Luray, VA.<\/p>\n
Jones and his wife lived near their store in Luray, and Jones would often greet fans and sing there with \u2018Cooter\u2019s Garage Band\u2019.<\/p>\n
He and his wife also coordinated many \u2018Dukes of Hazzard\u2019 fan and reunion events through the years.<\/p>\n
