He was traded to the Calgary Stampeders prior to his rookie season and went on to play five seasons for the organization. He served as a blocking back in front of Canadian Football Hall of Famer Willie Burden, who set Calgary\u2019s single-season rushing record in 1975.<\/p>\n<p>During that season, Galbos was involved in one of the most unfortunate plays in CFL history, as he delivered a clean block against Hamilton Tiger-Cats linebacker Tom Pate, which caused him to strike his head on the turf. The 23-year-old never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead three days later due to an aneurysm, becoming the only player in CFL history to die as a result of an on-field injury. He finally signed with Washington the following year but suffered a hamstring injury in his first NFL training camp and later retired.<\/p>\n<p>In 65 career CFL games, Galbos rushed 277 times for 1,244 yards and three touchdowns. He also caught 172 passes for 2,016 yards and eight majors, while returning 28 kickoffs for 591 yards.<\/p>\n<p>Following his retirement from football, Galbos resided in Calgary and worked in the construction industry.
