A popular Derbyshire caf\u00e9 has reopened under new ownership as a growing hospitality group continues its expansion across the region.<\/p>\n
Scrannery has taken over The Caf\u00e9 at Libby’s in Brampton, relaunching the venue as Mary\u2019s Yard while retaining the team that has served local customers for almost two decades.<\/p>\n
The opening marks Sheffield-based Scrannery\u2019s third new venue of 2026, following the launches of Discovery at Sheffield\u2019s Pennine Five campus and Nook & Scran at Chesterfield Library.<\/p>\n
Bosses say the new-look caf\u00e9 will build on Libby’s long-standing reputation within the community, combining a refreshed food and drink offering with the welcoming atmosphere that made the venue a local favourite.<\/p>\n
Rather than replacing the business that came before, Scrannery says it aims to preserve the caf\u00e9’s character while gradually introducing its own approach to food, coffee and hospitality.<\/p>\n
Dave King, co-founder of Scrannery, said: \u201cBrampton already has something special in this caf\u00e9, and our job is to look after it.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not here to tear up what people love \u2014 the good coffee, brilliant menu, and friendly faces \u2014 we\u2019re here to build on it and bring what has made Scrannery stand out to Brampton.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecoming the next custodian of an established community space is a different kind of challenge to opening somewhere brand new, and it\u2019s one we\u2019re taking real care to get right.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new name pays tribute to Mary Smith, a pioneering 19th-century local brewer whose brewery once stood nearby at Brewery Yard.<\/p>\n
Like Nook & Scran, Mary\u2019s Yard will serve speciality coffee from Redemption Roasters, the social enterprise that provides training and employment opportunities for people leaving prison and those at risk of offending<\/p>\n
Kieran Morgan-McGeehan, co-founder of Scrannery, added: \u201cMary\u2019s Yard feels like a natural next step for us in Derbyshire.\u00a0<\/p>\n
