{"id":853073,"date":"2026-08-10T15:00:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-10T15:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/853073\/"},"modified":"2026-08-10T15:00:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T15:00:14","slug":"cyclist-hit-by-e-scooter-left-with-serious-injuries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/853073\/","title":{"rendered":"Cyclist hit by e-scooter left with serious injuries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A cyclist was left seriously injured after an e-scooter rider crashed into her in Reading.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Elaine Parry was cycling with a friend at the A33 junction with Rose Kiln Lane on Sunday 2 August when the rider hit her.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Parry sustained a head injury, bruising to her face, a fracture to her upper left arm and cuts on her fingers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Thames Valley Police is investigating the crash and is appealing for witnesses to come forward.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Speaking to the <a data-ylk=\"slk:Local Democracy Reporting Service;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;\" data-yga=\"{&quot;yLinkElement&quot;:&quot;link&quot;,&quot;yLinkElementType&quot;:&quot;article_link&quot;}\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/lnp\/ldrs?xtor=AL-72-%5Bpartner%5D-%5Byahoo.north.america%5D-%5Blink%5D-%5Bnews%5D-%5Bbizdev%5D-%5Bisapi%5D\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Local Democracy Reporting Service<\/a>, Parry, from Tilehurst, said: &#8220;I could see that he was approaching fast. I went out so that I&#8217;d try to avoid him, but he hit me head on.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;Apparently his scooter went underneath the bike, I just didn&#8217;t see, it was gone, I had hit my head on the pavement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Parry, a mum in her 60s, said the force of the collision had thrown her over the handlebars.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"A street view of a road junction. Many cars are driving along the various carriageways.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/https:\/\/media.zenfs.com\/en\/bbc_us_articles_995\/9718f83c9cf9eda97a550edc17f9dd33.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Elaine Parry was cycling with a friend at the A33 junction with Rose Kiln Lane on Sunday 2 August when she collided with an e-scooter rider [Google]<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">She was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital for her injuries, but will require repeat visits.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The rider of the e-scooter did not sustain any injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I&#8217;m just not understanding why on earth he would ever do that speed for,&#8221; said Parry. &#8220;Apparently he passed my friend doing about 30mph, it was just before that corner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;He just looked at me, and he didn&#8217;t say a word.
