Police are investigating after a BMW that was stolen in Brampton was found on fire in Barrie.<\/p>\n

The vehicle fire happened on Thursday morning in a parking lot on Esther Drive, the Barrie Police Service says, when a nearby resident reported hearing a \u201cloud boom\u201d around 4:20 a.m.<\/p>\n

The witness reportedly saw flames and a large plume of smoke coming from a school parking lot. The fire was extinguished by around 6:45 a.m. and the vehicle was destroyed in the blaze, police say.<\/p>\n

The black 2015 BMW had been stolen in Brampton earlier that day, and police say the registered owner still had the only set of keys with him.<\/p>\n

A melted gas canister was located inside the vehicle, investigators said.<\/p>\n

The blaze is considered \u201csuspicious,\u201d and police are asking anyone who may have seen the fire or has video footage of the vehicle to contact investigators.<\/p>\n
