On Monday, the NHL player brought the Stanley Cup back to the place that played a “massive part” in his development.

The forward won the trophy as a member of the Carolina Hurricanes in June. So many people showed up at Monday’s event that there wasn’t enough time for everyone to get a moment with the NHL champion.

“I can’t believe the support I’ve gotten, it’s been incredible,” Jarvis told reporters.

“When I was younger, they gave me the keys to this place. They’d let me keep the lights on and keep the doors open so I could skate as long as I wanted. They’re a massive part of my childhood and a massive part of why I’m here today.”

Earlier, Jarvis held the trophy in the bed of a pickup truck while it rolled toward the community centre. The 24-year-old was drafted 13th overall by the Hurricanes in 2020 and made his NHL debut in 2021.

His overtime goal in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup final against the Las Vegas Knights prevented his team from falling behind 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.

Inside the community centre Monday, a crowd erupted in cheers for Jarvis, who also won silver with Team Canada in the 2026 Olympic Games.

Jarvis arrives with the trophy outside the community centre. (Radio-Canada)

Jarvis started to play hockey at the community centre in south Winnipeg, skating there “for hours and hours,” said his father, Ray Jarvis.

“It’s an amazing feeling, just knowing how much he’s appreciated and how much he appreciates being from Winnipeg,” Ray said Monday.

“He had a dream to go to the Olympics [and] to win the Stanley Cup, and to share that journey with them.”

A lineup of fans waited outside for a moment with Jarvis and the cup.

Maksym Bialowas was one of them. The 13-year-old said he waited about six hours for a spot near the front of the line.

Bialowas was excited when the Hurricanes won the cup, a trophy he said represents pride, joy and celebration.

“It’s hard to describe the emotions. I was so happy and joyful.”

‘Just wanted to make people smile’

Earlier in the day, Jarvis visited patients at Children’s Hospital with the trophy.

“I just wanted to make people smile,” he said. “It’s cool, the power that thing has and what it can do for people.”

Jarvis said it was incredible to share his championship with the community, alongside family and friends and other supporters.

“You can’t replace home.”

People waited hours for a moment with Jarvis and the Stanley Cup. (Jeff Stapleton/CBC)

Brothers Aiden and Trey Medina waited about two hours to meet Jarvis.

Aiden said it was “very cool” to meet his first NHL player and that the wait was “definitely” worth it.

Trey said Jarvis is one of his favourite players.

“It was cool to meet him.”

Chianne and Sev Ebadi waited 45 minutes to shake hands with Jarvis and touch the cup. The Vancouverites were on the last day of vacation in Sev’s hometown.

“I’ve been watching hockey my whole life. So, it’s really awesome,” Chianne said.

“This was a special little treat for us,” Sev said.

Sev said the visit meant a lot to the kids in the crowd.

“So grateful that hockey players are still coming back to their home communities and doing this.”

WATCH | Carolina Hurricanes player takes Stanley Cup to Tuxedo:

Seth Jarvis returns to Winnipeg with Stanley Cup in tow

Hundreds of people lined up outside the Tuxedo Community Centre on Monday to meet Seth Jarvis, who won the Stanley Cup with the Carolina Hurricanes in June.
