Drivers heading through one of Brampton\u2019s major downtown corridors should prepare for traffic disruptions this week as paving work gets underway on Queen Street West.<\/p>\n
Peel Region says paving will take place Thursday, Aug. 13, along Queen Street West from just east of McLaughlin Road to east of West Street, weather permitting.<\/p>\n
The work is scheduled to run from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with traffic reduced to one lane in each direction throughout the paving operation.<\/p>\n
The work is part of a larger Peel Region project that has involved replacing the watermain and sanitary sewer infrastructure in the area, along with roadwork. The broader project includes work on Queen Street West between McLaughlin Road and Mill Street South, resurfacing at the Queen Street West and James Potter intersection, and replacement of the Queen Street bridge deck over Fletcher\u2019s Creek.<\/p>\n
While the latest paving work is expected to last one day, it could create delays for drivers travelling through downtown Brampton.<\/p>\n
Peel Region says paving will begin on the north side of Queen Street West between McLaughlin Road and West Drive. During that phase, the south side of the road will remain open, with one lane maintained in each direction.<\/p>\n
Once the north side is paved, traffic will be shifted onto the newly paved section while crews work on the south side.<\/p>\n
Several side streets will also be partially closed between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday, including Mercer Drive, Haggert Avenue, McMurchy Avenue and West Street.<\/p>\n
Access will be maintained where possible, but drivers should expect temporary delays and restrictions as the work moves through the area.<\/p>\n
There will also be an impact for residents and businesses along Queen Street.<\/p>\n
Driveways on Queen Street West will not be accessible between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday while the paving is underway.<\/p>\n
Peel Region says alternative parking has been arranged on West Street, Elliott Street, Jessie Street and Haggert Avenue South with the City of Brampton.<\/p>\n

The paving is part of the final stages of a lengthy infrastructure project in the area.<\/p>\n
The larger project began in 2024 and has involved replacing aging underground water and wastewater infrastructure. Peel Region says the work is needed to maintain reliable water and wastewater services as the infrastructure ages and the population grows.<\/p>\n
The project has already caused a series of traffic impacts along Queen Street West, including previous road and intersection closures. Peel Region\u2019s project page lists the Aug. 13 paving as the latest construction notice for the corridor.<\/p>\n
Weather could push the paving back by a day. If conditions prevent the work from taking place Thursday, Peel Region says the backup date is Friday, Aug. 14.<\/p>\n
Drivers are being advised to slow down near the construction zone, watch for crews and consider using an alternate route where possible.<\/p>\n
The paving work is expected to be completed during the scheduled Thursday workday, although construction activities and traffic impacts can change depending on conditions.<\/p>\n
For Brampton drivers, the biggest takeaway is simple: if Queen Street West is part of your usual route through the downtown area, expect a slower trip Thursday.<\/p>\n
