A pair of golf professionals from Red Deer put forward a dominant performance earlier this month.

River Bend Golf and Recreation Area pros, Logan Hill and Phil McCluskey, swept the main and senior divisions at the PGA of Alberta Players Tour 1-Day event at the Ranch Golf and Country Club.

Hill birdied the final hole to secure a one-shot victory in the main division. The River Bend pro shot a 4-under-par 67.

“I hit the ball really well today despite a slow start of bogey, birdie, bogey,” said Hill in a press release. “I really took advantage of the par 5s and limited my mistakes.”

Hill finished one shot ahead of Nick Vandermey at 3-under-par, while David MacComb, of Royal Mayfair Golf Club, and Weston Gillett, of Lacombe Golf and Country Club, shared third at -2.

McCluskey brought home a much easier victory, firing a 5-under-par 66 to run away with the senior division crown.

“Well, I didn’t start out very well, bogey, double bogey, but made a birdie putt on four, and that turned my game around,” said McCluskey. “I drove the ball really well today, but really I made a bunch of putts, and that was the difference.”

McCluskey rattled off eight birdies over his final 14 holes to finish at 66 (-5). He beamed with pride about his fellow River Bend pro.

“Today, to be honest, it was all about Logan. I was watching the leaderboard and was so excited. Today is a dream. Logan is such a great player, he just kept me on a cloud,” added McCluskey.

“He is just such a great player to be around. I’ve learned from him that you’ve got to work hard and be dedicated to getting better. We are opposites in how we approach the game. He’s very technical as a fitter with shaft selection and gear, and I haven’t tied my shoelaces in 30 years. But we both want the same outcome.”

Hill credited his mentor, McCluskey, as a key factor in his victory.

“Phil taught me about learning to stay in the moment and staying patient. It’s really cool to win with him,” Hill said.

[443
49,48,622,82
post-854802","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-golf","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-golf","tag-sports
["GET
