Hyderabad woke up to widespread internet disruptions on Tuesday as the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) began a drive to remove low-hanging and dangling internet and cable TV wires from electricity poles across the city. The move, officials said, was aimed at ensuring public safety after two recent tragedies involving overhead electric lines during religious processions.<\/p>\n
On August 18, six people were electrocuted and four others critically injured<\/a> when a Krishna Janmashtami chariot came in contact with a live wire in Ramanthapur. Just a day later, on August 19, two men were died during a Ganesh idol procession<\/a> in Bandlaguda after a mishap involving high-tension wires.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n Following these back-to-back incidents, TGSPDCL ordered a special drive across Greater Hyderabad to clear risky hanging cables and wires.<\/p>\n TGSPDCL teams have since been snapping cables tied to electric poles across Hyderabad. While the utility insists the move is essential to prevent electrocution hazards, the sudden drive has triggered massive outrage online.<\/p>\n Many internet users faced abrupt outages, work-from-home routines were thrown into disarray, and social media was flooded with complaints.<\/p>\n BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a sharp attack on the Congress government, accusing it of being \u201cclueless.\u201d<\/p>\n In a post on X, he wrote, \u201cElect a clown, expect a circus! TGSPDCL is snapping internet cables across Hyderabad without any intimation to ISPs or customers. Lakhs of internet users hit. WFH disrupted. Daily life in chaos. If there\u2019s an issue with cables, there must be a proper process. But a clueless Revanth Govt resorts to such knee-jerk actions.\u201d<\/p>\n SOCIAL MEDIA USERS FUME OVER OUTAGE<\/p>\n Internet users slammed the government and TGSPDCL for not giving advance notice before cutting cables.<\/p>\n \u201cIn a metropolitan city like Hyderabad, where countless corporate employees rely on Work From Home, cutting down internet cables without any prior notice is highly irresponsible,\u201d wrote one user.<\/p>\n Another recalled the irony: \u201cOnly a few days back, CM Revanth requested IT employees to work from home due to rains and traffic jams. And the very next week, TGSPDCL employees cut internet cables and made it worse for us.\u201d<\/p>\n Calling it a \u201cTughlaq decision,\u201d one user posted: \u201cThere are internet issues in and around Hyderabad due to TGSPDCL cutting cables across a major IT hub. Were you all in coma when internet providers were messing with the cables around?\u201d<\/p>\n A fourth user demanded accountability: \u201cPlease announce such works at least 2 days in advance so people can plan. Many rely on an uninterrupted internet. Sudden outages kill productivity & some even risk jobs. Why no prior notice?
