The Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> bolstered their bullpen with the addition of Paul Sewald<\/a> off waivers, the team confirmed on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Sewald, 36, was designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks<\/a> earlier this week.<\/p>\n

A 10-year veteran, Sewald appeared in 45 contests for the Diamondbacks this season. He was 2-5 with a 6.23 earned run average and 1.103 WHIP over 39.0 innings pitched. Sewald struck out 44 batters and walked nine, recording 24 saves.<\/p>\n

A native of Las Vegas, Sewald has made 426 appearances for the D-Backs, Detroit Tigers<\/a>, Cleveland Guardians<\/a>, Seattle Mariners<\/a> and New York Mets<\/a>. For his career, he\u2019s 23-31 with a 4.30 ERA and 1.145 WHIP over 435.0 innings pitched. Sewald has notched 110 career saves.<\/p>\n

The team also announced that injured righty Jake Bloss<\/a> had been recalled to the big league roster and was immediately placed on the 60-day injured list.<\/p>\n

The Blue Jays (58-63) currently sit 2.5 games back of the final American League wild-card spot.
