Joel Embiid<\/a> worked out with seven of his teammates last week at the Sixers\u2018 practice facility in Camden, writes Adam Aaronson of The Philly Voice<\/a>. Even with the additions of LeBron James<\/a> and Jaylen Brown<\/a>, Embiid\u2019s health is expected to be pivotal to the team\u2019s success. He appeared to be slimmed down in a couple of photos that he posted<\/a> from the sessions.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters last week, president of basketball operations\u00a0Mike Gansey discussed Embiid\u2019s current mindset with the season a little more than two months away.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just been himself, man,\u201d Gansey said. \u201cI mean, I remember when I got the job, I went over there and he\u2019s like, \u2018I want to have a great year. I want to play a lot of games and I want to be back to All-NBA Joel.\u2019 He\u2019s talked the talk and now he\u2019s walking the walk. He\u2019s lost some weight, you saw the pictures. He\u2019s been in the gym. He\u2019s been lifting. So he\u2019s doing all the right things and he\u2019s super motivated and we\u2019re very, very excited.\u201d<\/p>\n

Besides winning the prolonged battle for James, Philadelphia also added Dean Wade<\/a>, Anfernee Simons<\/a> and Ariel Hukporti<\/a> in free agency. Gansey said he was focused on building an effective bench unit when the free agent process began.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe kind of have a big five,\u201d he said. \u201cBut it\u2019s just exciting just because we have so much talent, but our depth \u2013 getting Anfernee Simons, Dean Wade, getting Hukporti, along with (Dominick) Barlow<\/a>, Labaron (Philon Jr.)<\/a>\u00a0in the draft. I\u2019m just really excited to kind of see how it looks, the combinations, the lineups, the versatility we have. And it\u2019s just \u2013 when you have the talent, it\u2019s exciting, and trying to figure it out is the hard part.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a mailbag column<\/a>, Aaronson ranks the Sixers\u2018 reserves on the basis of expected playing time. He views Wade as a \u201csuper sub\u201d who will likely occupy the sixth-man role and move into the starting lineup when needed. Simons\u2019 defensive liabilities may limit his minutes and his ball-handling skills won\u2019t be vital on a team with so many ball-dominant players, but Aaronson states that he might be the best shooter on the team.
\nKnicks wing Pacome Dadiet<\/a> will represent Cote d\u2019Ivoire in this month\u2019s FIBA World Cup Qualifiers, according to Johnny Askounis of Eurohoops<\/a>. Askounis notes that Dadiet previously played for France at the junior level in international competitions.
\nPhil Pressey has announced that he will return as the head coach of the Celtics\u2018 G League affiliate in Maine, relays Bobby Manning of CLNS Media (Twitter link<\/a>).
