Ocean Photographer of the Year<\/a> award.\n <\/p>\n\n Finalists, who have just been announced, have captured magnificent shots of everything from fish protecting their young to human impact \u2013 good and bad.\n <\/p>\n
\n Organizers received thousands of \u201cextraordinary images,\u201d according to a Thursday press release. The competition is divided into a range of categories, including wildlife, fine art and conservation.\n <\/p>\n
\n Entries cover a huge range of subjects, showing drone, coastal and underwater perspectives.\n <\/p>\n
\n Among the standout images is one that shows two orcas working together to carry a humpback whale calf they hunted, while another depicts an enormous oceanic sunfish.\n <\/p>\n
\n A new category has been introduced this year titled \u201cOcean Unseen: Hidden Worlds\u201d which, according to organizers, \u201cturns the lens to the ocean\u2019s smallest and least-seen inhabitants.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Will Harrison, founder and director of the annual contest, said: \u201cThese photographs don\u2019t just capture what\u2019s beneath the surface; they surface the stories our planet most needs us to hear.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cAs the pressures on our ocean grow, so does the importance of the artists who bear witness to them,\u201d he added.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cThis year\u2019s finalists have produced work of extraordinary depth and courage, and we\u2019re proud that Ocean Photographer of the Year continues to be the platform where those stories reach the world,\u201d he added.\n <\/p>\n
