Three security staff at a downtown Winnipeg nightclub have been charged with assault after a Winnipeg Sea Bears player was seriously injured earlier this month, police say.<\/p>\n
Teddy Allen was hospitalized after he was assaulted at a downtown nightclub in the early hours of Aug. 3, the Canadian Elite Basketball League team previously said.<\/p>\n
Three security people who worked at the establishment, age 35, 37 and 58, were arrested Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm, police said in a news release Thursday. They were all released on undertakings.<\/p>\n
Police did not identify the nightclub but said it was on Main Street, between Portage and William avenues.<\/p>\n
Allen has completed medical tests, received a diagnosis and is now at home healing, he said in a written statement released by the team on Thursday.<\/p>\n
The assault “should never have happened nor should it happen to anyone for any reason,” Allen said.<\/p>\n
“The thing about my life is that when I’ve been knocked down, I get back up, which is exactly what I’m going to do now.”<\/p>\n
