Brampton is getting some major international recognition for something the city hopes businesses and investors already know \u2014 it is a good place to be.<\/p>\n
The City of Brampton\u2019s Economic Development Office has earned a second consecutive accreditation from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC), placing the city among a select group of economic development organizations recognized for meeting the highest international standards.<\/p>\n
Brampton is one of only six organizations in Canada and 98 worldwide to hold the Accredited Economic Development Organization (AEDO) designation.<\/p>\n
The city was first accredited in 2022 and successfully maintained the designation following a comprehensive year-long review. The latest accreditation is valid through 2029.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis reaccreditation sends a strong message to businesses and investors that Brampton has the expertise, partnerships and services in place to support their success,\u201d said Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, vice-chair of Brampton\u2019s Economic Development Committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy maintaining internationally recognized standards in economic development, we are strengthening confidence in Brampton as a place where businesses can invest, grow and create jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n
The recognition is more than a designation for City Hall.<\/p>\n
The AEDO program is designed to evaluate how effectively an economic development organization supports investment, business growth and job creation.<\/p>\n
As part of the latest review, Brampton achieved full compliance across all six areas assessed by the IEDC: leadership, strategic direction, community support, resources, technology and adaptability.<\/p>\n
Reviewers also highlighted several areas they said distinguish Brampton\u2019s economic development operation.<\/p>\n
That includes a highly skilled team, strong partnerships with City departments, Council, post-secondary institutions, innovation partners and the local business community, as well as the city\u2019s ability to respond to changing economic conditions.<\/p>\n
One example was Brampton\u2019s Tariff Action Plan, which brought industry and government partners together to support local manufacturers and helped secure additional federal resources for businesses.<\/p>\n
The IEDC review involved a two-phase process lasting a year.<\/p>\n
The first phase included a comprehensive examination of the Economic Development Office\u2019s work over the previous three years. The second included a site visit involving City leadership, Council members, staff and community partners.<\/p>\n
Organizations must successfully complete the reaccreditation process every three years to retain the AEDO designation.<\/p>\n
The IEDC is the world\u2019s largest membership organization for economic and community development professionals, with more than 5,000 members globally.<\/p>\n
For Brampton, the international recognition offers another way to promote the city to companies looking to invest, expand or create jobs.<\/p>\n
The message is straightforward: Brampton isn\u2019t just a large and growing city \u2014 it has an economic development operation that meets global standards for helping businesses succeed.<\/p>\n
And city officials believe that gives Brampton another competitive advantage when it comes to attracting investment and building a resilient local economy.<\/p>\n
