\n\tSony Pictures Networks India<\/a> (SPNI) has set an October launch for Sony Vizha<\/a>, its new Tamil<\/a>-language general entertainment channel, the company confirmed as it revealed the channel\u2019s name and identity on Indian Independence Day through a rendition of \u201cTamizh Thai Vaazhthu,\u201d Tamil Nadu\u2019s state song whose title translates to \u201cInvocation to Mother Tamil.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe channel marks SPNI\u2019s entry into Tamil entertainment, built around premium content rooted in Tamil culture, language and everyday life, produced with ambition intended to travel beyond its home market. Sony Vizha will combine original fiction, global reality formats, movies and tentpole entertainment across television and digital platforms ahead of its October debut.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cVizha\u201d means celebration or festival in Tamil, and SPNI said the name is meant to capture a spirit built around Tamil stories, talent, music, family and popular entertainment. \u201cTamizh Thai Vaazhthu,\u201d performed at the start of major occasions across the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, provided the inspiration for the channel\u2019s identity, with its central image of Tamil pride carrying outward in every direction shaping the brand\u2019s positioning. The logo pairs yellow, drawn from colors associated with celebration in Tamil Nadu including turmeric and marigold, with electric blue for a contemporary, premium look.<\/p>\n

\n\tRajaraman Sundaram, chief content officer \u2013 south regional, Sony Pictures Networks India, said: \u201cWith Sony Vizha, we are taking a heartfelt step into Tamil entertainment. This is a market with a rich creative legacy, a deeply expressive language and audiences who have always embraced stories with emotion, honesty and cultural pride.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSundaram added that the company was entering the market with humility and a genuine wish to contribute something meaningful, while building stories with the scale and craft to travel further, reflecting what he described as the sharper, faster and more outward-looking instincts of a new generation of Tamil viewers.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu\u2019 beautifully speaks of Tamil\u2019s pride spreading in every direction. That sentiment inspires Sony Vizha \u2013 a celebration of Tamil culture, deeply rooted in emotion and imagined for a wider world. We reveal the name and logo today with gratitude and look forward to bringing the channel to audiences in October,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\n\tSPNI\u2019s existing roster of Indian entertainment franchises includes \u201cKaun Banega Crorepati,\u201d \u201cIndian Idol,\u201d \u201cCID\u201d and \u201cCrime Patrol.\u201d The company said Sony Vizha will draw on that history of building popular brands while forging its own Tamil identity, one it described as emotionally grounded, premium in execution and broad in appeal.<\/p>\n

\n\tFlagship programming already lined up for the channel includes \u201cCelebrity MasterChef Tamil\u201d and \u201cTamil Idol,\u201d hosted by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman, part of a slate<\/a> SPNI said will blend original programming, reality formats, movies and curated global entertainment for Tamil audiences across generations. Further programming and launch details will be revealed closer to the October debut, the company said.<\/p>\n

\n\tSPNI is an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation, Japan, and operates 29 premium channels in India spanning Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and Tamil general entertainment alongside movie, sports and kids networks. The company said its network reaches more than 700 million viewers in India and is distributed in over 150 countries.
