The WorldTour carries on on Sunday in northern Germany for the ADAC Cyclassics Hamburg. It\u2019s a 207-km race that has become one of the most unpredictable sprint opportunities on the calendar. It\u2019s fairly flat, but sometimes an escape steals the show from the sprinters.<\/p>\n
2025 edition<\/p>\n
Last year, Rory Townsend produced a major surprise by staying clear of the chasing pack to take the biggest win of his career.<\/p>\n
The route is unchanged from 2025, starting in Buxtehude before heading towards Hamburg. The key feature is the Waseberg, a 800-m climb averaging around eight per cent. The lads in Germany will tackle it five times. The last time up comes just 17 km from the finish. After that, the surviving sprinters have a relatively flat run into central Hamburg and the 500-metre finishing straight on M\u00f6nckebergstra\u00dfe.<\/p>\n
Kooij or Milan?<\/p>\n
Olav Kooij is one of the obvious favourites. The Dutchman won here in 2024 and arrives after a strong Tour de France, where he took a stage and added two runner-up finishes.
Jonathan Milan is another major threat after winning three stages at the Tour of Poland. Paul Magnier, who collected three Giro d\u2019Italia stage wins, should also be well suited to the repeated climbs.<\/p>\n
Canadians in Germany<\/p>\n
There are two Canadians racing in Germany, both from NSN Cycling. Montreal\u2019s Guillaume Boivin, who makes his return to racing following his crash on the final stage of the Baloise Belgium Tour. He was 22nd last year.<\/p>\n
The former national champ suffered a severe acromioclavicular joint separation when he hit the ground with 90 km from the finish in Belgium. But he\u2019s back at in on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Pier-Andr\u00e9 C\u00f4t\u00e9 joins him in Germany. C\u00f4t\u00e9 had a great ride recently at the Tour of Denmark, where he scored his best Euro stage race result, finishing 6th overall. He will also be racing for team Canada at the road worlds in Montreal. Boivin, 37, was also recently listed as an alternate to the squad.<\/p>\n
The NSN Cycling team suffered a tragic loss on Friday with the death of Finlay Starling, who rode for the devo team. The 19-year-old Briton was allegedly hit by a motorist during Stage 8 of the Volta a Portugal.<\/p>\n
