The Visma \u2013 Lease a Bike rider thankfully wasn\u2019t hurt, but the incident slightly altered his approach to the 3.1-km TT in Essen. \u201cIt definitely shook my confidence a bit in the corners. Where I\u2019d normally feel strong, I lost some time today,\u201d he said to <a href=\"https:\/\/sporza.be\/nl\/2025\/08\/20\/-het-tastte-mijn-vertrouwen-wel-aan-van-aert-vloekt-na-val-bij-verkenning-maar-stelt-gerust-na-5e-plaats-in-proloog~1755715265364\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sporza<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the setback, Van Aert ended up just two seconds behind winner S\u00f8ren W\u00e6renskjold\u2014a result he could accept given the circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a result I can live with,\u201d Van Aert <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teamvismaleaseabike.com\/race-report\/news\/van-aert-fifth-in-deutschland-tour-prologue\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said<\/a>. \u201cIt was short but tough. The course was extremely fast, where details made all the difference. I think I rode a solid prologue, but I never had the feeling along the way that I was on track for the fastest time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As far as the crash beforehand, he did admit it shook him up a bit. \u201cThe corners that usually suit me cost me time,\u201d Van Aert said.<\/p>\n<p>There are no Canadians racing in Germany, but on Saturday the <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclingmagazine.ca\/sections\/news\/there-will-be-two-canadians-racing-the-vuelta-but-no-derek-gee\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a<\/a> begins and there are two racing. Check back with Canadian Cycling Magazine for photos and reports after every stage.<\/p>\n<p>Looking ahead, Van Aert is focused on the upcoming stages. \u201cThe next few days should be very interesting. There are good opportunities\u2014not just for me, but also for Matthew Brennan. I\u2019m looking forward to chasing results together with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The young English star has had a standout season in his first year as a WorldTour rider. In 2024, he rode for the Visma \u2013 Lease a Bike development squad.
