{"id":861710,"date":"2026-08-17T20:26:08","date_gmt":"2026-08-17T20:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/861710\/"},"modified":"2026-08-17T20:26:08","modified_gmt":"2026-08-17T20:26:08","slug":"carly-rae-jepsen-lena-dunham-10-things-i-hate-about-you-gets-date","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/861710\/","title":{"rendered":"Carly Rae Jepsen, Lena Dunham: &#8217;10 Things I Hate About You&#8217; Gets Date"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe musical adaptation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/10-things-i-hate-about-you\/\" id=\"auto-tag_10-things-i-hate-about-you_1\" data-tag=\"10-things-i-hate-about-you\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">10 Things I Hate About You<\/a> will begin Broadway performances Aug. 17, 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe production features music and lyrics by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/carly-rae-jepsen\/\" id=\"auto-tag_carly-rae-jepsen_1\" data-tag=\"carly-rae-jepsen\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Carly Rae Jepsen<\/a> and Ethan Gruska and a book by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/lena-dunham\/\" id=\"auto-tag_lena-dunham_1\" data-tag=\"lena-dunham\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lena Dunham<\/a> and playwright Jessica Huang. Christopher Wheeldon (MJ, An American in Paris), will direct and choreograph. The plot is based on the 1999 Touchstone Film, which starred Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe casting, opening night date and the exact Broadway theater for the production has not yet been announced. The show will come to Broadway without an out-of-town tryout, but will hold a public presentation in New York.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe film loosely adapts the plot of The Taming of The Shrew and follows the rebellious Kat Stratford (Stiles) as she is pursued by Patrick Verona (Ledger), who is paid to take her out on a date. That arrangement is made so that Cameron James (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) can take Kat\u2019s younger sister, Bianca (Larisa Oleynik), out on a date of his own, per the rules set up by their father. The movie also starred Allison Janney and Larry Miller.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThis marks the Broadway debut for Dunham, known for creating and starring in Girls. Jepsen, in addition to her career as a recording artist, appeared on Broadway in the 2014 Broadway production of Rodgers &amp; Hammerstein\u2019s Cinderella.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMike Bosner, producer of Cats: The Jellicle Ball, is producing the musical in partnership with Buena Vista Theatrical.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe start date of the show puts the musical into the 2027-2028 Broadway season.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The musical adaptation of 10 Things I Hate About You will begin Broadway performances Aug. 17, 2027.
