ongoing threats of tariffs and other trade obstacles, three Abbotsford businesses have been handed federal funding to sustain key commercial sectors.

Housing and Infrastructure Minister Gregor Robertson recently made this announcement in Burnaby, where he said the government was giving money to 24 B.C. companies.

Among the recipients were One Degree Organic Foods, Dynamic Fenestration, and Longboard Architectural Products, all of which are based in Abbotsford.

One Degree Organic Foods received $1 million to assist with production automation, new product development, and international promotional efforts.

The organic food manufacturer primarily produces oat products and other plant-based foods for both local and international markets.

Dynamic Fenestration plans to use its $550,000 in funding to develop more energy-efficient products, expand its market reach, and create more advanced manufacturing jobs.

This manufacturer of windows and doors creates its products for high-end residential and commercial buildings all across North America.

Longboard Architectural Products was the recipient of $400,000, which is going toward the purchase of new production equipment, expansion into new markets, and the creation of manufacturing jobs.

Commercial and residential buildings all across Canada and the U.S. use the external building components produced by this company.

This combined $1.95 million in federal funding comes from the Regional Tariff Response Initiative (RTRI), which was created to help Canadian businesses thrive amid various trade difficulties.

“Trade disruptions are creating real challenges for the B.C. businesses that are the backbone of our economy,” said Robertson.

“That is why the Government of Canada is stepping up with investments – to help these businesses build more resilient supply chains, grow productivity, and open doors to new markets.”
