{"id":862646,"date":"2026-08-18T15:18:11","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T15:18:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/862646\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T15:18:11","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T15:18:11","slug":"spotifys-playlist-notes-are-for-editors-and-listeners-alike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/862646\/","title":{"rendered":"Spotify\u2019s playlist notes are for editors and listeners alike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u2018Context is lacking from music-streaming\u2019 is a truism that gets less true by the month, with a number of new features \u2013\u00a0particularly on Spotify \u2013\u00a0attempting to plug the context gap.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.spotify.com\/2026-08-17\/playlist-notes-editors-listeners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">The latest example is \u2018Playlist Notes\u2019<\/a>, which enable playlisters to add text notes to tracks (and podcast episodes or audiobooks) within those playlists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCapture a memory, share a recommendation, or explain why a pick made the cut,\u201d as Spotify put it. While this feature will be used by Spotify\u2019s own playlist editors, it\u2019s also being rolled out to Spotify\u2019s users.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">(This isn\u2019t entirely new news:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/musically.com\/2026\/07\/31\/spotify-listeners-can-add-their-own-context-with-user-notes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Spotify announced \u2018user notes\u2019 as a feature last month<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For now, the editor\u2019s notes will be visible to over-16s in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand on flagship playlists including \u2018Today\u2019s Top Hits\u2019, \u2018RapCaviar\u2019 and \u2018Hot Country\u2019. However, the user notes are rolling out in more than 100 countries within Spotify\u2019s mobile app.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we noted in last month\u2019s story, this isn\u2019t just a cosy digital scrapbook for listeners or a way for playlisters to inject some personality into their picks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a huge, free, human-annotated dataset of emotions, memories and opinions around music.
