Bond yields continued spiking around the globe yesterday, putting investors on edge. The 30-year U.S. Treasury<\/a> yield touched another record<\/a>, while comparable offerings in Germany and France rose to levels not seen in more than a decade. <\/p>\n

2. New target <\/p>\n

Tariff refunds are continuing to lift companies’ bottom lines. Target<\/a> said this morning that the refunds gave its net earnings a $752 million boost<\/a> in the second quarter which, combined with strong sales, led the retailer to hike its outlook for the full year.<\/p>\n

Lowe’s<\/a> also credited tariff refunds for an 11 cent increase in its earnings per share, but the company gave a tepid outlook<\/a> for the year amid “pressure” in DIY spending. The home improvement retailer also missed analysts’ revenue expectations for the second quarter, sending the stock down more than 3% in premarket trading.<\/p>\n

For those keeping score: Home Depot<\/a> shares finished yesterday’s session slightly lower<\/a> despite beating Wall Street’s expectations. Up next is Walmart<\/a>, the nation’s largest grocer and private employer, which reports earnings tomorrow.<\/p>\n

3. Like a good neighbor<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump said late last night that he would pause his plan for 50% tariffs<\/a> on certain Canadian goods, which was set to kick in at midnight. He said that the duties would be postponed for three days since the countries had reached a deal “subject to the finalization of documents.”<\/p>\n

Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke on Tuesday as the deadline approached. Had the new tariffs been imposed, the U.S. would have slapped a 50% levy on Canadian imports including hockey sticks and wine.<\/p>\n

Dan Kelly, president of the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, told CNBC that 50% tariffs would have made products “uneconomic to sell.” Many of his organization’s members said the import taxes would have brought their U.S. sales “to a halt,” he said.<\/p>\n

As new vehicle sales show signs of softening, car dealerships are putting more focus on their parts and services businesses<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Kerrigan Advisors found that gross profit from the average dealership’s parts and services arms rose to $5 million in 2025 from $3.3 million in 2020. As CNBC’s Robert Ferris<\/a> reports, dealers look to their parts and services units in periods when consumers are less prone to purchase vehicles. That makes this corner of the auto industry relatively well-hedged compared to traditional automakers. <\/p>\n

Still, there’s risks brewing for dealers. Chain repair shops have been winning market share as consumers view them as cheaper alternatives to dealerships.<\/p>\n

5. Now playing<\/p>\n

Coming soon to an American Airlines<\/a> plane near you: a seatback screen. The air carrier is planning to add the displays to most<\/a> of its narrow-body fleet starting in 2028.<\/p>\n

As CNBC’s Leslie Josephs<\/a> reports, American debated whether to bring back the screens for months. Yesterday’s announcement marked a reversal from the airline’s previous position that the screens were not worth the cost or added weight.<\/p>\n

But Heather Garboden, American’s chief customer officer, told CNBC that the technology “has advanced so much from when we made this decision more than a decade ago.” She declined to say how much it would cost American.<\/p>\n
