\n\t\u201cInsidious: Out of the Further<\/a>\u201d\u00a0won\u2019t topple the box office reign of \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe sixth \u201cInsidious\u201d installment is targeting $23 million to $27 million in its domestic debut, likely enough for second place on North American charts. \u201cBrand New Day\u201d should retain the No. 1 spot in its fourth weekend, with the superhero sequel estimated to earn $35 million to $40 million between Friday and Sunday. Both movies hail from Sony.<\/p>\n

\n\tUnless \u201cOut of the Further\u201d beats expectations, the latest \u201cInsidious\u201d won\u2019t improve upon the start of its predecessor, 2023\u2019s \u201cThe Red Door,\u201d which opened to $33 million. However, the paranormal sequel cost just $18 million to produce, so it won\u2019t require a huge turnout to reap box office rewards. This film serves as a sequel to \u201cInsidious: The Red Door\u201d and follows a new family as they explore the creepy concept of \u201cthe Further\u201d \u2014 a purgatorial place inhabited by the tortured spirits of the dead.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cInsidious\u201d has been a commercially successful series, with the five low-budget films having generated a combined $740 million globally. The 2013 sequel \u201cInsidious: Chapter 2\u201d currently stands as the biggest debut in the franchise with $40 million, however \u201cThe Red Door\u201d ranks as the highest-grossing entry to date with $189 million worldwide.<\/p>\n

\n\tThis weekend also sees the release of Lionsgate\u2019s action-thriller \u201cMutiny,\u201d starring Jason Statham, as well as Black Bear\u2019s comedy \u201cSpa Weekend,\u201d led by Isla Fisher,\u00a0Leslie Mann,\u00a0Anna Faris and\u00a0Michelle Buteau. Neither film is expected to break out in its opening weekend.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMutiny\u201d is targeting a soft $8 million to $10 million from 2,700 theaters. It cost $40 million to produce; Lionsgate acquired North American rights but didn\u2019t finance the film. Statham plays a former marine who has to prove his innocence after he\u2019s framed for murdering his billionaire boss. \u201cSpa Weekend\u201d is aiming for just $3 million to $5 million from 2,000 screens. It carries a roughly $20 million price tag. Directed by\u00a0Jon Lucas\u00a0and\u00a0Scott Moore, the movie follows three burned-out childhood besties who travel to a luxury resort in Palm Springs.<\/p>\n

\n\tThose films are expected to land behind \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d which should bring in roughly $15 million in its sixth weekend of release. Christopher Nolan\u2019s blockbuster is the second-biggest movie of the year with $504 million in North America and $1.29 billion worldwide to date.<\/p>\n

\n\tMeanwhile, \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d will continue its epic box office run. The Tom Holland-led Spidey adventure just crossed $800 million domestically after 19 days, the fastest film to hit the milestone and fourth movie ever to do so. With $804 million in North America and $2.078 billion globally to date, it\u2019s already the fifth-highest grossing movie in history, trailing just 2009\u2019s \u201cAvatar\u201d ($2.9 billion), 2019\u2019s \u201cAvengers: Endgame\u201d ($2.7 billion), 2022\u2019s \u201cAvatar: The Way of Water\u201d ($2.3 billion) and 1994\u2019s \u201cTitanic\u201d ($2.2 billion) and ahead of 2015\u2019s \u201cStar Wars: The Force Awakens\u201d ($2.07 billion) and 2018\u2019s \u201cAvengers: Infinity War\u201d ($2.05 billion).<\/p>\n

\n\tThis summer has been the biggest since the pandemic upended the industry, with revenues surpassing $4 billion for only the second time since COVID<\/a>. Domestic ticket sales stand at $4.24 billion from May 1 through Aug. 16, running 23% ahead of the same period in 2025 and nearly 6% ahead of 2019.
