BALTIMORE (AP) \u2014 The Baltimore Orioles<\/a> activated catcher Samuel Basallo<\/a> from the injured list before Wednesday night\u2019s game against the New York Yankees<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Basallo hasn\u2019t played since July 19 because of a shoulder injury. The Orioles capped a seven-game winning streak that day, but since then they are just 12-14. They\u2019ve been able to stay in the postseason race, however, trailing the final wild card by just one game entering Wednesday.<\/p>\n

While Basallo was out, Baltimore traded Adley Rutschman<\/a>, the team\u2019s other main catcher. That solidified Basallo\u2019s status as the No. 1 catcher going forward, although the Orioles did acquire Carlos Narv\u00e1ez in that deal. Narv\u00e1ez is set to start at catcher Wednesday, with Basallo at first base and Pete Alonso<\/a> at designated hitter.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nice writing Sammy\u2019s name in the lineup. Missed him,\u201d manager Craig Albernaz said. \u201cIt\u2019s good to have him back, especially the way he attacked his rehab process. He handled it like a total pro, worked his tail off. His body\u2019s in a really good spot. He\u2019s moving well.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old Basallo is hitting .241 with 16 home runs and 46 RBIs this season.<\/p>\n

Baltimore optioned utilityman Jeremiah Jackson<\/a> to Triple-A Norfolk.<\/p>\n
