A book-themed pop-up attraction is at Guildford Town Centre for a month starting Thursday, Aug. 20.

Close to 1,000 titles are available for reading and buying at The Book Corner, located in the mall’s Centre Court North area, lower level.

With chairs and tables it’s part cozy reading destination, part community fundraiser.

All proceeds benefit Surrey Fire Fighters’ Charitable Society literacy initiatives through Surrey Libraries and Surrey Youth Grants program.

“This is timed with back-to-school season but we also know that books are very popular right now, book culture,” said Kiran Deol, mall marketing manager.

“We don’t have a permanent tenant selling books so it’s great to bring something to the mall that’s not technically readily available. We have two retailers that sell books, Walmart and London Drugs, a limited capacity, so it’s exciting for us to bring more books to the shopping centre.”

The Book Corner runs daily until Sept. 20 during mall hours, with books and related merchandise for sale (card only, no cash).

“People can sit down, browse different categories, experience new books, then make a purchase and take their favourite book home,” said Deol, noting mystery, thriller and romance titles she enjoys.

“I just finished reading Road Trip (by Mary Kay Andrews), which is kind of a mystery, kind of a coming-of-age between two sisters. That was a lot of fun to read, a fun summer book.”

With a stamped “library card,” those who buy five books get a $10 reward, while supplies last, for redemption at certain mall retailers.

Here at @ShopGTC for their launch of The Book Corner, a month-long pop-up that encourages literacy and raises $$ for ⁦@SFFCharitable⁩.

The mall no longer has a book-specific retailer.
