<\/p>\nThe return of Brampton Regional Councillor Paul Vicente to the board of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) comes at an important time for the rapidly growing city.<\/p>\n
Vicente has been reappointed to the AMO board for another two-year term, giving Brampton a seat at the table as municipalities across the province push the provincial government for more support on issues ranging from infrastructure and housing to transit and health care.<\/p>\n
Vicente has served on the AMO board since 2020 and received the support of municipal colleagues from across Ontario for another term.<\/p>\n
AMO represents almost all of Ontario\u2019s municipalities and plays a key role in developing municipal policy positions, working with the provincial government and advocating for issues affecting local governments and their residents.<\/p>\n
For Brampton, Vicente\u2019s return comes as the city is looking for significant provincial investments to keep up with its rapid population growth.<\/p>\n

At this week\u2019s 2026 AMO Annual Conference, Brampton representatives met with provincial leaders and municipal partners while highlighting four major priorities: transit, housing-enabling infrastructure, health care and community safety.<\/p>\n
Transit is a major focus, with the city pushing for progress on the Hazel McCallion Light Rail Transit line and the Queen Street\u2013Highway 7 Bus Rapid Transit project, along with transit electrification and other transportation investments.<\/p>\n
Brampton is also seeking provincial support for the water and wastewater capacity, community facilities and other infrastructure needed to support new housing and a growing population.<\/p>\n
Health care is another key concern.<\/p>\n

The city continues to advocate for its second hospital, a comprehensive Cancer Care Centre at Brampton Civic Hospital and provincial support to begin planning for a third hospital.<\/p>\n
Brampton is also seeking continued investment in the William Osler Health System\u2019s partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University\u2019s School of Medicine, which is aimed at helping train and retain more physicians in the community.<\/p>\n
Community safety and well-being round out the city\u2019s priorities, including support for justice system capacity, mental health and wellness services, homelessness prevention, community-based interventions and emergency services.<\/p>\n
That makes Vicente\u2019s role with AMO particularly important.<\/p>\n
The organization provides municipalities with a collective voice at Queen\u2019s Park and gives local governments a way to help shape provincial policies that can have a direct impact on municipal services and finances.<\/p>\n
Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said having Vicente return to the board strengthens the city\u2019s voice at an important municipal advocacy table.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving a Brampton representative on the AMO Board helps ensure the needs of our residents are part of province-wide discussions,\u201d Brown said, pointing to the city\u2019s need for investments in transit, housing-enabling infrastructure, health care and community safety.<\/p>\n
Vicente said he is looking forward to continuing to bring Brampton\u2019s perspective to the table while working with municipalities across Ontario on challenges they share.<\/p>\n
For Brampton, those challenges are becoming increasingly difficult to ignore as the city continues to grow.<\/p>\n
Vicente\u2019s 2026\u20132028 term means Brampton will once again have a representative in the room as municipalities make their case to the provincial government \u2014 and as the city pushes for the investments it says are needed to keep pace with that growth.<\/p>\n
