U.S. booze ban will be ‘tough’ to give up<\/p>\n
Aileen Machell, the former deputy chief of staff to B.C. Premier David Eby, said the U.S. liquor ban remains “symbolically important,” by giving Canadians a concrete way to push back against the Trump administration.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“It will be a tough one to give up,” Machell said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Earlier Thursday, Kinew urged Canadians to keep fighting and not to buy U.S. alcohol even if the liquor becomes available in provinces where it has been banned.<\/p>\n
The Manitoba premier’s response has led some to question how his message will affect the federal government’s ability to maintain a “Team Canada” approach while negotiating with the Trump administration.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Still, Machell, who worked for Eby’s office when the U.S. liquor ban in B.C. came into effect, said that Kinew is effective at “understanding the role of emotion in political communication” and how to tap into the feelings of Canadians across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n
