Region of Peel \u2013 Investigators from the 21 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) are seeking additional victims following an extortion investigation in Brampton linked to an online dating setup.<\/p>\n
In July, the victim was contacted on a messaging platform by an individual using a name Manisha Sharma. After agreeing to meet in person in August, the victim attended a residential basement apartment near Torbram Road and Peter Roberston Boulevard in Brampton. Shortly after, a male suspect entered the room, and the victim was allegedly threatened and extorted of $6,000 through e-transfer.<\/p>\n
Following a thorough investigation, investigators identified the suspects as Harwinder Singh, a 35-year-old man from Brampton, and Riya Riya, a 23-year-old woman from Brampton. Both were arrested and charged on Aug. 12 with:\u00a0<\/p>\n

In addition to the above charges, Harwinder was also charged for Utter Threats.<\/p>\n
Both suspects were held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice.<\/p>\n
Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone who experienced a similar incident under the pretext of a casual date to come forward and contact police.<\/p>\n
