The Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> made a flurry of roster moves ahead of Friday night’s game against the New York Yankees. <\/p>\n

Fellow deadline acquisition Josh Smith was placed on the 10-day IL with left hamstring inflammation and left-hander Brendan Cellucci was optioned to triple-A in a pair of corresponding moves. <\/p>\n

Brett Bateman is also back in the lineup, batting leadoff and playing centre field after exiting Wednesday’s game with right hamstring tightness and taking a day off on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Arrighetti was acquired in return for Daulton Varsho in a deadline trade with the Houston Astros. He was diagnosed with Morton’s neuroma soon after, a condition related to a damaged or enlarged nerve that causes pain in the bottom of the foot.<\/p>\n

The right-hander allowed two runs on three hits, striking out three and walking two over 3.2 innings (50 pitches) in his most recent rehab outing at triple-A.<\/p>\n

Arrighetti has a 4.60 ERA, striking out 87 batters and walking 50 over 88 major-league innings this year.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Schneider has struggled in the big leagues this year, slashing .142\/.295\/.274 with three home runs and 12 RBIs in 61 games. <\/p>\n

The moustachioed utility man has been far more successful with the Bisons, hitting for a .219\/.465\/.429 with six homers and 21 RBIs over 37 games. <\/p>\n

Smith had been successful since being added in a trade for Canadian lefty Adam Macko on deadline day. The 29-year-old utility player had a pair of home runs and a .787 OPS over 14 games with the Blue Jays. <\/p>\n

Cellucci, 29, was called up Wednesday but did not make an appearance with the Blue Jays and is yet to make his MLB debut. <\/p>\n
