{"id":867044,"date":"2026-08-22T05:42:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T05:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/867044\/"},"modified":"2026-08-22T05:42:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T05:42:14","slug":"toronto-under-special-weather-statement-for-heavy-rain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/867044\/","title":{"rendered":"Toronto under special weather statement for heavy rain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Talk about putting a damper on the weekend. <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/en\/location\/index.html?coords=43.655,-79.383\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Toronto<\/a>, saying we could see heavy rain over the next few days, with local amounts possibly exceeding 50 mm in some areas.<\/p>\n<p>CityNews Chief Meteorologist Natasha Ramsahai says we could see two rounds of possible thunderstorms in Toronto on Saturday, with the first one around 8:00 a.m., followed by a second sometime between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe rain is highly localized,\u201d she adds. \u201cSome areas could get 5 mm, others could see upwards of 50-plus mm, especially around cottage country and higher elevations down through southwestern Ontario.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ramsahai says the heaviest rain will hit Toronto Saturday through the afternoon and evening.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is going to be an unsettled weekend, much cooler for Sunday and Monday, temperatures will rebound though once again next week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Environment Canada also notes there\u2019s \u201cconsiderable uncertainty as to exactly which areas will receive the highest rainfall amounts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The agency warns that the hardest hit areas could experience flooding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t drive through flooded roadways,\u201d it advises. \u201cAvoid low-lying areas.
