{"id":86747,"date":"2025-08-21T17:42:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T17:42:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/86747\/"},"modified":"2025-08-21T17:42:07","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T17:42:07","slug":"highlander-remake-casts-karen-gillan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/86747\/","title":{"rendered":"Highlander Remake Casts Karen Gillan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/karen-gillan\/\" id=\"auto-tag_karen-gillan_1\" data-tag=\"karen-gillan\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Karen Gillan<\/a> has joined the sword-swinging cast of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/henry-cavill-highlander-departing-lionsgate-for-amazon-mgm-1236194377\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Highlander<\/a>, Amazon MGM\u2019s remake of the 1980s cult classic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHenry Cavill is leading the cast that includes Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, and Marisa Abela.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe action fantasy is being directed by Chad Stahelski and is slated for a theatrical release.\u00a0Principal photography is due to begin at the end of September.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe original\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/highlander\/\" id=\"auto-tag_highlander_1\" data-tag=\"highlander\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Highlander<\/a>, released in 1986, starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, a Medieval Scottish Highlander who discovers he is an immortal warrior. With the help of a swordsman named Ramirez, played by Sean Connery, the titular Highlander battles other immortals across the centuries, culminating in a modern battle in which, like the classic line of dialogue goes, \u201cthere can be only one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn the remake, Cavill is playing MacLeod while Crowe is Ramirez. Bautista is the savage warrior named The Kurgen while Industry actress Marisa Abela also has a leading role.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tGillan will play Heather, MacLeod\u2019s mortal wife and the love of his life. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMichael Finch wrote the script for the remake. Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt are producing alongside Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski\u2019s 87Eleven Entertainment, Josh Davis of Davis Panzer Productions and Louise Rosner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIf successful, Gillan may have a third franchise on her resume. The actress is best known for playing cybernetic alien Nebula in Marvel Studios\u2019\u00a0Guardians of the Galaxy and\u00a0Avengers\u00a0series. And she also starred in Sony\u2019s\u00a0Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle\u00a0and\u00a0Jumanji: The Next Level with a third on the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShe can now be seen in Neon\u2019s The Life of Chuck, based on the novella by Stephen King.
