class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Unifor and General Motors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/investing\/markets\/stocks\/GM-N\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/investing\/markets\/stocks\/GM-N\/\">GM-N<\/a> have agreed on tentative labour contracts for more than 4,600 auto workers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Unifor National President Lana Payne says the agreements deliver strong increases in wages and benefits for workers at GM facilities in Ontario, including the Oshawa assembly plant, the CAMI facility in Ingersoll as well as operations in St. Catharines and Woodstock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Talks between Unifor and GM Canada began earlier this month after the union reached an agreement with Ford that included three per cent annual pay increases and a renewal of a no-closure agreement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Unifor\u2019s top bargainer with GM says the tentative deals are in line with the pattern set by the Ford agreement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text mv-16 l-inset text-pb-8\" target=\"_blank\">Stellantis weighs selling idled plant in Brampton, Ont., union says<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">In pattern bargaining, a union negotiates with one company to set terms that it hopes to replicate with other companies in the same sector.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The GM labour contracts must still be ratified by Unifor members. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The union says ratification meetings are scheduled for Aug. 29 and 30.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Jack Uppal, president and managing director at GM Canada, says the deal builds on GM\u2019s investments in Canadian manufacturing but further details of the agreements will be shared later to respect the ratification process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The union is set to move onto labour talks with Stellantis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/investing\/markets\/stocks\/STLA-N\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">STLA-N<\/a> next amid headwinds for the auto sector, including U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/topics\/tariff\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/topics\/tariff\/\">tariffs<\/a>, the Trump administration\u2019s decision not to extend the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement, and the introduction of Chinese electric vehicles into
