I won a stage of the 2024 Tour de Normandie, so it’s been a while since a win, but I’m definitely stronger in general.

“I did an altitude camp [before the Tour], which is my first time doing one of those. It went really well. I was feeling strong at the Tour. My climbing was better, which is good because it was a very hilly Tour.”

            What to read next

Both Nelson and her team are looking for a win, with Picnic-PostNL last tasting victory at last year’s Baloise Ladies Tour when Charlotte Kool sprinted to victory on the opening stage.

The team currently sits 18th in this season’s UCI rankings, though the situation isn’t as grim as it is for the men’s team, ranked 30th in the world, with several key riders leaving next season.

“Coming into this season, we had a big turnover of new riders, so it took us a while to get into a rhythm with each other,” Nelson said, noting that eight of their 15 riders are new to the team this season.

“Obviously, it’s very important to have that riding chemistry.
