The 41-year-old man faces five charges after closed circuit video released on social media appears to show him abusing a dog<\/p>\n
Two days after a video showing a man abusing a dog appeared on social media, the man police say is the person in the video has been arrested and charged.<\/p>\n
On Aug. 19, Greater Sudbury Police said starting at around 6:50 p.m. they received multiple calls from the public regarding an incident of animal abuse that was captured on CCTV in what appears to be the vestibule of a residential building.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough the course of the investigation, officers obtained CCTV footage of the incident and identified the individual believed to be responsible,\u201d GSPS said in an Aug. 20 news release.<\/p>\n
Police located the dog at a residence on Lourdes Street. The animal was seized under the Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) Act.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe dog was removed from the residence and transported to a local veterinary clinic for assessment and care,\u201d police said.<\/p>\n
In an Aug. 21 news release, GSPS provided an update, saying the man in question, who wasn\u2019t at the residence at the time the dog was seized by police, was arrested on Thursday in downtown Sudbury.<\/p>\n
The 41-year-old faces the following charges:<\/p>\n
\n\tCruelty to animals
\n\tInjuring or endangering other animals
\n\tPossession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
\n\tMischief under $5,000
\n\tTheft under $5,000
<\/p>\n
The man is scheduled to appear in bail court today to answer to the charges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe investigation remains ongoing.
