a sit-down with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation<\/a> Saturday talking about his legendary career.<\/p>\n\u201cGeena Davis and I were engaged to be married for about five weeks and she fell in love with Jeff Goldblum doing her first movie over there in Europe,\u201d McDonald said with a laugh.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I don\u2019t blame him,\u201d he added. \u201cShe\u2019s stunningly beautiful and everything like that, but you know, what happens on sets \u2014 things sometimes happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut, I was broken,\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n
The movie McDonald is referring to is the 1985 comedy \u201cTransylvania 6-5000,\u201d in which Davis and Goldblum co-starred in alongside Ed Begley Jr. McDonald said Begley Jr. was the one to tell him his engagement was off.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was doing\u00a0\u2018Hamlet\u2019\u00a0at the time, playing Laertes, and I had another three weeks to finish and then I was going to go over and join her,\u201d McDonald shared. \u201cSo I got the bad news from\u00a0Ed Begley. He did me that solid.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean I was really, really devastated,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

But McDonald did work with Davis again in 1991\u2019s \u201cThelma & Louise,\u201d in which he played her husband. He explained that it was the only job that was available to him at the time, and humorously recounted how his casting was also a shock to Davis.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s literally five years later and [Davis] said to [director Ridley Scott], \u2018Who\u2019d you get to play my husband?\u2019 and he said, \u2018Oh, you\u2019ll love him, he\u2019s tall, he\u2019s funny, uh \u2026 what\u2019s his name? Chris McDonald,\u2019 and then she said, \u2018I used to go with him,\u2019 and he said, \u2018Even better, perfect!\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
McDonald said he awkwardly asked her to go to lunch the next day and that he and his ex-fianc\u00e9e \u201chugged it out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis and Goldblum did end up getting married in 1987, but she filed for divorce three years later. <\/p>\n
The actress has been married four times \u2014 aside from Goldblum, she was married to restauranteur Richard Emmolo from 1981 to 1984, director Renny Harlin from 1993 to 1998, and pediatric plastic surgeon Dr. Reza Jarrahy<\/a> from 2001 to 2017.<\/p>\nShe and Jarrahy share three children together.<\/p>\n
