{"id":871327,"date":"2026-08-25T21:04:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-25T21:04:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/871327\/"},"modified":"2026-08-25T21:04:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-25T21:04:09","slug":"shogun-rua-to-retire-after-glover-teixeira-boxing-match-i-think-its-the-last-one","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/871327\/","title":{"rendered":"Shogun Rua to retire after Glover Teixeira boxing match: \u2018I think it\u2019s the last one\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">RIO DE JANEIRO \u2014 Mauricio \u201cShogun\u201d Rua will enter a boxing ring Saturday to face Glover Teixeira in a battle of former UFC champions in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and that will likely be the last time he ever puts gloves on to fight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">The former UFC and PRIDE titleholder spoke with MMA Fighting during the Spaten Fight Night 3 open workouts in Rio de Janeiro and said he only came back from retirement to face Teixeira under boxing rules.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">\u201cI think it\u2019s the last one,\u201d Rua said. \u201cBut I think the future is a mystery, so\u2026 I don\u2019t know, but I think it\u2019s the last one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">Rua and Teixeira retired from MMA on the same night in January 2023, when both lost to Ihor Potieria and Jamahal Hill at UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro, but this match-up was one he felt it was \u201cmissing\u201d from his MMA resume.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">\u201cActually, I\u2019m a fulfilled person,\u201d Rua said when asked if there were other names that could bring him back for more fights in the future. \u201cI think I\u2019ve fought the best in the world. And I don\u2019t think [I\u2019ll fight again] But I\u2019m a guy who is driven by challenges. What drives me are my goals, my targets, my dreams. I don\u2019t know what tomorrow will bring, but I think this is the last one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">Rua did his entire camp with Andre Dida as his head coach, but turns out he won\u2019t be allowed in the arena Saturday. Dida was involved in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mmafighting.com\/boxing\/406046\/video-wanderlei-silva-knocked-out-cold-in-post-match-brawl-spaten-fight-night-2\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a massive brawl that broke out<\/a> between Wanderlei Silva and Aceilno Freitas teams after the main event of Spaten\u2019s 2025 event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">\u201cDida won\u2019t be in my corner,\u201d Rua said. \u201cI did the entire preparation with Dida, but he can\u2019t be here because of what happened at the last Spaten event. But I have my team here, who have been with me since the beginning of camp. Dida\u2019s people are also here, so everything is fine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"duet--article--dangerously-set-cms-markup duet--article--standard-paragraph _1upudxki _174s0un1 _174s0un0 _1mt21p01\">\u201cI talk to Dida every day,\u201d he continued. \u201cI already have the strategy in my head. I also talk to Master Rafael [Cordeiro] every day. Everything is aligned between me, Master Rafael, Dida, and my team.
