If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to turn one of the best Formula 1<\/a> drivers of all-time loose on a karting track with 100 mere mortals, we’re going to find out.<\/p>\n

It was announced that Red Bull’s four-time champion Max Verstappen \u2014 fresh off a rough weekend in which he crashed out of his home race on the opening lap \u2014 will take on scores of karters<\/a> in a special, made-for-TV event called “Max vs 100.”<\/p>\n

It will take place on a purpose-built karting track at Silverstone \u2014 site of the British Grand Prix \u2014 and will be broadcast on ESPN and streamed on Disney+.<\/p>\n

This will be wild.<\/p>\n

First of all, I’m a sucker for made-for-TV stunts. Motorcycle jumps, tightrope walks, whatever David Blaine feels like doing (which is usually hanging upside down or sitting in a chunk of ice for a few days), I’m in.<\/p>\n

While this doesn’t have the danger factor of Evel Knievel sending it over the fountain at Caesars Palace, it will be a display of just how good the Dutchman is behind the wheel of anything.<\/p>\n

I don’t think it’s a matter of whether Max Verstappen can overtake go-karters; it’s how long it will take him to do it.<\/p>\n

Like most F1 drivers, Verstappen started his racing career on karts, so he’ll have to reach into his old bag of tricks.<\/p>\n

“In go-karts you learn all the basics: starts, defending, overtaking,” he said in a statement, per Motorsport<\/a>. “Of course, I spent a long period of my life go-karting, so it’s always nice to return. It\u2019s about understanding the grip of the go-kart. I’ve done so many years in go-karting that you quite naturally get back into things.”<\/p>\n

I’m curious to see how hard the karters defend against him. On one hand, it would be cool to say you made it hard for a driver of Verstappen’s caliber to get past you, but you don’t want to be the guy who causes a crash by moving under braking or not leaving enough space through a corner.<\/p>\n
