{"id":871521,"date":"2026-08-26T00:50:15","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T00:50:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/871521\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T00:50:15","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T00:50:15","slug":"bookstore-closing-soon-after-more-than-50-years-in-brampton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/871521\/","title":{"rendered":"Bookstore closing soon after more than 50 years in Brampton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A beloved bookstore in a Brampton mall is preparing to close after more than five decades.<\/p>\n<p>The Cole\u2019s books store first opened in 1971, and was one of the first retailers in the Bramalea City Centre before the amalgamation of Brampton in 1974.<\/p>\n<p>But after more than 50 years, the store will only be open until early September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter more than 53 years in our community, we regret to announce that this location will be closed effective September 5, 2026,\u201d a sign outside the Cole\u2019s bookstore reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur store has become a place for people to gather and be inspired. Coles and SmithBooks merged in the \u201990s to form Chapters, which later merged with Indigo in 2001.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement that the Brampton Coles is closing comes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/major-coffee-chain-closing-location-attached-to-brampton-bookstore\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">just months after the Starbucks coffee shop inside the Brampton Market Hall Indigo also closed permanently<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Many of Starbucks\u2019 Indigo- and Chapters-attached locations have closed following the book retailer\u2019s deal with Canadian coffee chain Good Earth Cafe in 2022, including in Sudbury and Kitchener.
