{"id":871557,"date":"2026-08-26T01:26:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T01:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/871557\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T01:26:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T01:26:10","slug":"royals-michael-massey-exits-vs-blue-jays-after-hitting-head","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/871557\/","title":{"rendered":"Royals&#8217; Michael Massey exits vs. Blue Jays after hitting head"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/teams\/kansas-city-royals\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"kansas-city-royals\" data-league=\"mlb\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kansas City Royals<\/a> lost their second baseman midway through Tuesday&#8217;s series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.<\/p>\n<p><a data-player=\"d2cf2da2-3691-41cd-91cd-d8691269bfea\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/baseball\/mlb\/players\/michael-massey\/d2cf2da2-3691-41cd-91cd-d8691269bfea\" target=\"_self\" class=\"sn-player-post-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Michael Massey<\/a> was forced to exit in the bottom of the fifth inning after fielding a ground ball off the bat of Nathan Lukes and hitting his head on the turf as he fell to the ground after making the throw.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old was visited by team training staff on the field before walking off under his own power.<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Tolbert entered to take over in Massey&#8217;s place.<\/p>\n<p>Massey was 0-for-2 with a walk against Blue Jays starter Max Scherzer through three trips to the plate on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He entered the contest slashing .275\/.307\/.444 with 11 home runs and 22 doubles on the season.<\/p>\n<p>A fourth-round pick of the Royals in 2019, Massey is in the midst of a particularly hot August.
