{"id":871842,"date":"2026-08-26T07:18:32","date_gmt":"2026-08-26T07:18:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/871842\/"},"modified":"2026-08-26T07:18:32","modified_gmt":"2026-08-26T07:18:32","slug":"wyndham-clark-issues-defiant-response-to-bmw-championship-controversy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/871842\/","title":{"rendered":"Wyndham Clark issues defiant response to BMW Championship controversy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wyndham Clark doesn\u2019t care what people think about <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/24\/sports\/wyndham-clark-causes-stir-with-practice-swings-during-3-6m-bmw-win\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">his curious practice swings<\/a> in the rough on the 14th hole during Sunday\u2019s final round of the BMW Championship.<\/p>\n<p>The two-time U.S. Open winner, who <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/23\/sports\/wyndham-clark-wins-bmw-championship-with-roller-coaster-round-to-enter-player-of-the-year-conversation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">was victorious Sunday in St. Louis<\/a> and took home the $3.6 million first-place prize, denied attempting to improve his lie as he switched clubs twice and took at least seven practice swings before landing his second shot on the green, 24 feet from the hole.<\/p>\n<p>The moment called to mind Bryson DeChambeau\u2019s two-shot penalty during the second round of last month\u2019s British Open, when he was ruled to have improved his lie in the high grass.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think any player when they\u2019re trying to judge a lie takes out different clubs to see what it feels like. I never fully put the club down behind it. So I don\u2019t think anything of it,\u201d Clark said Tuesday ahead of this weekend\u2019s Tour Championship, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.golfdigest.com\/story\/fedexcup2026-wyndham-clark-bmw-rules-possible-penalty\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">per Golf Digest<\/a>. \u201cWhen the cameras are on you, they\u2019re gonna find anything. I think you saw that in Bryson\u2019s case.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Clark, 32, said the lie was \u201cnever bad\u201d and delivered a pointed message to those who believe he was acting nefariously.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy no means did I take a bad lie and make it really good. So people can think what they want,\u201d Clark said. \u201cI know I didn\u2019t do anything that was costing the integrity of the field. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Clark\u2019s activity before the shot in question drew the attention of the CBS broadcast crew.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s taking a long look at this.
