Museums<\/a> have always been cool, but this fall, the Brooklyn Museum<\/a> is making sure there\u2019s no question as it rolls out a particularly eclectic slate of exhibitions and installations.<\/p>\n

The big draw is Art of Manga<\/a>\u00a0(October 3\u2013January 31, 2027), making its East Coast debut in the Museum\u2019s Great Hall. The exhibition brings together a huge selection of original manga artwork, including pieces connected to series such as Inuyasha, JoJo\u2019s Bizarre Adventure, \u014coku: The Inner Chambers and One Piece.<\/p>\n

And because apparently one manga exhibition wasn\u2019t enough, the Great Hall will also host Manga Before Manga: Japanese Art from the Collection<\/a>\u00a0(October 3\u2013January 31, 2027), which digs into the historical roots of the art form.<\/p>\n

If your taste runs more C\u00e9zanne than Straw Hat, there\u2019s C\u00e9zanne to Modigliani: Gifts of Modern Art from the Pearlman Collection<\/a>\u00a0(October 2\u2013April 18, 2027), featuring more than 50 European masterpieces. Think of it as both a concentrated dose of modernism and a fresh transfusion of\u00a0gift shop merch.<\/p>\n

Hopi Kachina Dolls: Blessings for a Balanced World<\/a> (October 2\u2013June 27, 2027) takes a different approach, examining the kachina doll tradition through the perspective of Hopi girls and women. Michael Richards: Free F\u2019All<\/a>\u00a0(September 11\u2013June 6, 2027)\u00a0will occupy the lobby, honoring the history of the Tuskegee Airmen while remembering the artist himself, who died on September 11, 2001. The installation brings Richards\u2019 work into conversation with that history, adding a sobering counterpoint to the season\u2019s more exuberant offerings.<\/p>\n

Then there\u2019s the still-running Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses<\/a>\u00a0(on view through December 6), a tribute to the revolutionary fashion designer whose work exists somewhere between haute couture, sculpture and what appears to be an extremely elegant science experiment.\u00a0And\u00a0coming in October to\u00a0the Toby Devan Lewis Education Center, Mika Ninagawa: Feel the Flow(ers)<\/a>\u00a0brings the vivid photographic practice of the celebrated Japanese artist into the museum.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Basically, the Brooklyn Museum\u2019s fall agenda is\u00a0shaping up to be a “choose your own adventure” kind of experience, from\u00a0manga to modernism to couture.
