\n An American Airlines plane blew two tires while taxiing for departure at Chicago\u2019s O\u2019Hare International Airport on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Federal Aviation Administration \u2013 the fourth tire mishap in a month at the airport.\n <\/p>\n
\n Passengers used stairs to deplane and were taken by bus to the terminal, the FAA said in a statement.\n <\/p>\n
\n The agency is investigating the incident.\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cShortly after\u2004\u200bpushing back\u2004\u200bfrom\u2004\u200bthe gate\u2004\u200bat\u2004\u200bChicago\u2004\u200bO\u2019Hare\u2004\u200bInternational Airport\u2004\u200b(ORD), American Airlines flight 3280 experienced a tire\u2004\u200bissue on\u2004\u200bthe taxiway,\u201d the airline said in a statement. \u201cCustomers safely returned to the\u2004\u200bterminal\u2004\u200band\u2004\u200bwill\u2004\u200bre-depart shortly\u2004\u200bon\u2004\u200ba\u2004\u200breplacement aircraft.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n Passenger Lataisa Williams said the plane was gaining speed when she heard a loud \u201cpop.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
\n \u201cIt was extremely loud,\u201d she told CNN. \u201cEverybody heard the tires pop \u2026 it all happened so quick.\u201d The plane then rolled to a slow stop, she said.\n <\/p>\n
\n Minutes later, Williams said, the pilot announced two tires had blown and were \u201cshredded,\u201d and that passengers would need to leave the plane and board buses in groups of 40.\n <\/p>\n
\n Passengers waited about an hour for the buses and another hour for a new flight, Williams said.\n <\/p>\n
\n The Chicago Department of Aviation told CNN in a statement it was aware of the incident and working closely with American Airlines.\n <\/p>\n
\n The affected airplane is a Boeing 737-800 and was bound for Charlotte, North Carolina.\n <\/p>\n
\n Crew trucks and vans surrounded the aircraft on the tarmac, video captured by CNN affiliate WBBM<\/a> showed.\n <\/p>\n \n Air traffic control audio revealed the plane behind the damaged aircraft noticed the blown tire pieces on the tarmac.\n <\/p>\n \n \u201cI can see two blown right tires on your main gear and you guys are going to deplane out here, is that correct?\u201d air traffic control asks the pilot, which he affirms, according to the audio from atc.com<\/a>.\n <\/p>\n \n This incident is the latest in a series of tire issues at Chicago airports during the busy summer travel season.\n <\/p>\n \n Last Monday, two planes suffered tire damage after landing at O\u2019Hare just hours apart.
